SOAS University of London

The client
SOAS, University of London – SOAS, the School of Oriental and African Studies, is a social sciences and humanities institution that specialises in the study of Africa, Asia and the Middle East. SOAS has a commitment to social justice, research excellence and an interdisciplinary approach.
The solution
SOAS’s Senate Chamber, a state-of-the-art hybrid meeting space, was designed to embody the institution’s principles of inclusivity and egalitarianism by ensuring every contribution—whether from on-site or remote participants—held equal value. Hosting up to 60 on-site attendees, the space required seamless audio performance to maintain its unique 'Arthurian' experience, fostering equal participation without hierarchy. Leveraging their longstanding partnership with Sennheiser, the University installed multiple TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) microphones, chosen for their functionality, reliability, and innovative beamforming technology. These microphones provided crystal-clear audio coverage, ensuring every voice was heard with equal clarity while seamlessly integrating with the room’s design. By combining Sennheiser’s cutting-edge technology with careful planning of acoustics, decor, and seat placement, the University created a Senate Chamber that exemplifies collaboration and innovation in higher education governance.
"We designed the Senate Chamber to embody inclusivity, ensuring every participant—whether on-site or remote—has an equal voice. The TeamConnect Ceiling 2 microphones from Sennheiser were integral to achieving this vision, delivering crystal-clear audio and seamless integration in a space that fosters collaboration without hierarchy."
