Well-known Scientific Artist Director, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Institute of Medical Genetics Professor Zeng received her MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine. She is currently professor and director of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Institute of Medical Genetics, and director of the Key Lab of Embryo Molecular Biology National Health Commission, China. She is a Changjiang Scholar and a chief scientist of the National Basic Research Program of China. Prof. Zeng's research findings in the filed of genetics and developmental biology have received wide recognition, as her work has been selected as the "Top Ten News on Basic Research in China" and the "Top Ten News on Science and Technology Progress in China" multiple times, and resulted in many scientific awards, such as the First Young Woman Scientist Award by the Third World Organization of Women in Science (TWOWS) , the 10th China Youth Science and Technology Award, the 5th C.C. Tan Bioscience Innovation Award, and the second prize of the National Prize for Natural Sciences. Named as the “Rising and Shining Artistic Star in the Scientific World,” Prof. Zeng is also an influential contralto singer. She has studied with famous artists such as Guojun Wu, Yiming Liao and Bingruo Tan, and has held many solo concerts both in China and in the United States. She was a receipient of the Special Honorary Awards at the 2nd and 3rd CCTV China Music Television (MTV) Awards and has released several singing albumns. In recent years, Prof. Zeng has devoted much of her time promoting the cultural education to bridge science and arts using multidisciplinary approaches such as public speaking as well as annual solo concerts at the Shanghai Grant Theater and Shanghai Oriental Art center and the Shenzhen Grant Theater, etc.
